The slow poisoning of India
At Samskruti we emphasize on growing your own food and work towards sustainability of food, water and energy. our designs facilitate a dedicated area for growing your own food using modern technologies to produce pesticide free healthy food.
I will recommend is to see an excellent documentary ‘The Slow Poisoning of India’ , a 26-minute documentary film directed by eminent Ramesh Menon and produced by the New Delhi-based The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). It deals with the dangers of excessive use of pesticide in conventional agriculture in India which is so rampant that people are eating a ‘cocktail’ of pesticides. India is one of the largest users of pesticide in Asia and also one of the largest manufactures.
The toxins have entered into the food chain and into our breakfast, lunch and dinner. The film showcases startling case studies from Kerala where villagers in Kasaragod district are paying a heavy price as it has been exposed to pesticide spraying for many years. It talks of the health impacts in other parts of India and also on how the magic of the green revolution in Punjab is fading as land and water bodies have been poisoned.

How to reduce dust and noise in your apartments
The easiest answer is to clean regularly. I agree that mopping, cleaning regularly is a solution, but what else can you do to control noise and dust?
Dust, especially fine dust, causes allergies, breathing problems and other skin related discomforts. It is important to have systems to clean up the dust and prevent it from entering to your homes. The best way is to provide a plant cover and reduce the allergens in the air due to fine dust.
Green enveloping the building also would ensure noise mitigation, protection against the wind. Another great advantage is to control the radiation(either increase or decrease by choice and design).
Moreover it is common knowledge that most of the plants/trees take in Carbondioxide and release Oxygen.

The working triangle in a kitchen
While most of the designs in the kitchen should be done to accommodate the tastes and work-style of the lady of the house, the working triangle remains the same.
There should be easy access to the stove, refrigerator and the sink. It would be an added advantage if you have a counter away from the stove, near the refrigerator. At Samskruti Builders, we also have a small planter for growing fresh vegetables too.

What is Seismic zone 3?
We are designing for seismic zone 3 complaint. Several research reports point make this necessity considering micro-zonal seismic activity in Bangalore. We anticipate using 50% more steel (we use corrosive resistance steel in appropriate places) and concrete. This is not only going to make the building earth-quake resistant but also durable.
Bangalore should upgrade to Seismic Zone 3.
‘Unscientific land use makes Bangalore vulnerable to quake’
Bangalore: Although Bangalore does not have a significant earthquake history, unscientific land use — notably large-scale construction on land reclaimed from tanks and lakes — have “increased the vulnerability of this city even against a moderate earthquake”, says a new report sponsored by the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The rapidly transforming city is seismically “moderately” active says the report titled “Seismic microzonation of Bangalore Urban Centre”, going on to recommend that south Karnataka, in particular Bangalore, Mandya and Kolar, be upgraded from the current Indian Seismic Zone II to Seismic Zone III.
The report, compiled by the Indian Institute of Science along with seven other institutes, was released here on Friday by Shailesh Naik, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences. The report also observed that in recent years much of the seismic activity in Karnataka has been in the south, especially in the Bangalore-Mysore region. The Mandya-Channapatna-Bangalore lineament is the “seismogenic source” for the city, and an earthquake of magnitude 5 on the Richter Scale was the most intense the region has seen. “The high density of population, mushrooming of buildings… improper and low quality construction practices, unscientific land use and heavy traffic conditions only add to the damage scenario,” says the report.
The study looked at 220 sq. km. of the city and analysed parameters including seismotectonic and geological information, soil and climatic conditions, said T.G. Sitaram, professor, IISc., who compiled the report.
